You have a right to be respected as an individual and to be treated with kindness at school.
Others may not laugh at you, make fun of you, or hurt your feelings.
You are entitled to be treated fairly whether you are tall or short, boy or girl, have blonde or black hair, or whether you learn quickly or if it takes you a little longer to get the right answer.
You have a right to be safe at school.
No one should make you feel afraid to come to school. No one should hurt you or threaten to hurt you.
You have a right to tell your side of a problem.
You will be given a chance to tell your side of a problem or incident.
You have a right to learn.
You are entitled to work in a calm and orderly environment.
Student Responsibilities
Respect the right of others to learn
Students come to school to learn. If you keep others from
learning by bothering them, you have taken something
important and valuable from them.
Help make school a good place to be
When you think about it, a school is a place where good things
happen to people; you make new friends, you are treated with
respect, and you learn things which will help you the rest of your life.
If someone doesn’t like school, it is probably because these things are not happening. It is one of your responsibilities to help make school
a good place for everyone.
Come to school unless you are sick or excused
In California, there is a law which says you must go to school
unless you are sick. The reason for this law is to be sure that all
children get an education. If you miss school, you can’t learn. If you
miss school, you miss out!
Be on time for school
If you are late for school in the morning, you miss things you need
to know. The first minutes of the morning are essential for your
success during the rest of the day.
Finish your schoolwork
Learning to read and to understand math is like learning
to play the piano or to play basketball. If you don’t practice, you
will not be very good at it. Some things have to be done over and
over before they are learned. Keep trying even if it is hard. Homework
is assigned regularly. Keep up with your assignments!
Take care of school property
The parents of every child in school have helped to pay for everything
in your school. The buildings, the books, the playground balls and the toys; everything belongs to all the people in Wright District. You are
sharing the things you use at school. If these things are torn up, it
means students must go without them or parents and taxpayers must
spend more money to replace them. When something belongs to everyone, we all must help take good care of it.
